A sculptural remnant of the vineyard—this 19th century English wine press screw has been thoughtfully reimagined as a pedestal, its deeply carved spiral form once central to the pressing of grapes.

Hand-carved in solid wood, the column rises in a bold helical rhythm, anchored by an octagonal base and finished with a faceted top. The surface carries a warm, time-softened patina, with visible age, wear, and natural splitting that speak to its original function and long life in use.

Now removed from its industrial origins, it reads as pure form—architectural, grounded, and quietly commanding. A piece that does not need ornament, only placement.

Strking as a standalone sculptural object, or used as a pedestal for a bust, vessel, or nothing at all.
