Origin: Germany
Period: 1890-1910
Material: Pine
Condition: Wear consistent with age and use
Dimensions: 22” length, 8” width, 3.5” thick
Germany, circa 1890-1910.
This late 19th century wooden cigar mold, found in England, features deeply carved fluted channels once used to form and press hand-rolled cigars. The pine has aged to a warm tobacco hue, its surface darkened and polished by decades of handling.
Stamped along the base is “No. 844” and the mark “D.R.G.”—believed to reference Deutsches Reichsgebrauchsmuster, the German registered design designation introduced in 1891.
Peg construction, visible tool marks, and honest wear speak to its utilitarian origins. Today, however, it reads as sculpture—rhythmic, textural, and unexpectedly refined. An industrial relic with warmth and soul.
Because every good room needs a past.
