France, early 20th century.

An original woodcut by French modernist Aristide Maillol, created for Ambroise Vollard’s celebrated 1937 illustrated edition of Virgil’s Les Géorgiques.

Part of the early 20th-century tradition of livres d’artiste, these prints were commissioned from leading artists and issued in limited fine-press editions—often later separated and framed as standalone works of art.

Maillol’s sculptural approach to line lends a quiet, classical presence that layers effortlessly into both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Because every good room needs a past.
