Victorian Hand-Carved Wooden Textile Printing Block

$48.00

England, circa late 19th century.

A finely hand-carved wooden printing block dating to the Victorian period, traditionally used in the production of block-printed textiles, wallpapers, or papers throughout 19th century England.

The radiating lotus floral motif would have originally been inked or pigmented and pressed repeatedly by hand onto fabric or paper to create continuous surface patterning. Subtle tool marks remain visible within the recessed carving, while the richly oxidized surface bears evidence of long-term workshop use.

Mounted with a simple nailed handle for downward pressure and alignment, the block retains its original sculptural integrity and now lends itself beautifully as an object of decorative interest—a quiet nod to the handmade processes that once defined interior finishes.

Because every good room needs a past.
