Switzerland, circa 1960.
An iconic sculptural planter attributed to Swiss designer Willy Guhl, formed from a single sheet of fiber cement into the wonderfully loose folds that gave this design its “handkerchief” name.
The low profile and exaggerated, turned-up edges give it an almost weightless appearance despite the industrial material. Decades outdoors have left the surface with exactly the kind of weathering we look for—soft gray and stone tones, areas of lichen and moss, and a beautifully mottled patina.
Designed as a planter, but just as compelling left largely alone as a sculptural object. We especially love these on a garden table, stone pedestal, or low console.
Because every good room needs a Willy.
