Tall. Spare. And just a little medieval.
A 19th-century English floor candlestick, hand-worked in iron with a squared stem, four forged knops and a beautifully simple tripod base. Three scrolling supports rise beneath the circular candle plate—a small bit of flourish on an otherwise wonderfully utilitarian piece.
The old iron surface is especially good, with oxidation, remnants of finish and all the irregularities that come with age and hand workmanship. We’ve left it exactly as we found it, (minus the spiderwebs).
At its height, it has enough presence to stand on its own beside a fireplace, console or favorite old chair.
Because every good room needs a past.
